Icolo & Bengo - The province of Moxico, as of Friday the May 24th, will have a solar-photovoltaic energy park, installed on the outskirts of the city of Luena, with a power of 25.3 MWp, which will benefit 59,483 people, it was announced today.
The production of electrical energy to supply the city of Luena is currently done through the Tchiumbwe-Dala hydro plant, with 12.4 MW, Luena2 thermal plant, with 4.4 MW and Luena3 (Wartsila), with 10 MW available.
The new project cost €36.9 million and includes a total of 43,680 solar panels.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Energy and Water, to which ANGOP had access to, the undertaking is part of the Angolan government's objective, set out in the "Energia Angola 2025" plan, which envisages diversifying the country's energy matrix to ensure that around 82 % of its rural population has access to electricity.
With the entry into operation of this photovoltaic park, the uninterrupted supply of electricity to the city of Luena is ensured.
The Luena photovoltaic park consists of a total of seven, to be built in the provinces of Benguela (Baía Farta and Biópio), Huambo (Bailundo), Bié (Cuito), Lunda-Norte (Lucapa) and Lunda-Sul (Saurimo), which will come into operation by the end of the current year.
The photovoltaic parks of Saurimo, in the province of Lunda-Sul, Biópio and Baía Farta already produce clean electrical energy.
The report states that, as a whole, the seven solar parks were developed by an international consortium made up of the companies Sun África and MCA, with the latter in charge of engineering and construction.
It has already completed three clean and renewable energy parks for around 2.4 million Angolans, contributing to the annual reduction in pollutant emissions of around one million tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide).
Photovoltaic parks also eliminate the need to consume around 1.4 million diesel in generators and thermal production, with polluting effects, which will allow significant savings in fuel import costs.
