Luanda – Angola needs to develop dynamic operations in the fisheries, tropical fruits and coffee sectors to boost exports and diversification of the national economy, according to the Director General of the National Institute of Infrastructures of Angola Quality (INIQ), Olga Dicamba.

“Our agricultural potential have already been demonstrated but there is a need for national products to observe the requirements and certification processes for their internationalization and for Angolan companies to export products made in Angola,”  she said while speaking Tuesday in Luanda at opening ceremony of a workshop on product quality infrastructures.

The director considers the joint training workshop promoted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)-International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to be fundamental, on the “Quality National Infrastructures for the Agro-Food Sector”, focusing on fishing, tropical fruits and coffee, with the aim of leveraging the diversification of the economy, regional integration and promoting exports.

Olga Dicamba added that it is necessary to invest in this type of structure, particularly in the agricultural food sector, improvement in the logistics network, transport, cold chain facilities, as well as intensifying measures on sanitary and phytosanitary structures.

According to the director, developing the national industry, technical and professional components and attracting sustainable investment to these sectors would increase the chances of exporting national products to international markets.

Olga Dicamba said that the ongoing training action encourages national producers and exporters with a set of tools to increase the volume of fishing and agricultural products for foreign markets.

The director added that, for 3-day workshop will bring together national and international specialists, as well as technicians from different sectors of society to jointly address the issue of quality infrastructure in Angola.

Representatives of public and private institutions working in the fisheries, fruit and coffee sectors participate in the joint UNCTAD-ISSO training workshop sponsored by European Union.
