Luanda – The adjustment of the television price packages by subscription and mobile companies up to 25%, recently authorized by the Angolan Communications Institute (INACOM), exempts the payment of the basic package to safeguard the minimum services to citizens with less purchasing power.
According to INACOM, the ongoing price of the basic package, consisting of 10 channels, with emphasis on channels 1 and 2 of the Angola Public Television (TPA) and TV Zimbo, will remain at 2,200 kwanzas.
In a note, INACOM said that this measure protects the interests of operators, customers and the availability of services of the desired quality.
With the document published in the official gazette second serie nº 141 of 25 July, the regulatory authority authorises the adjustment of the retail prices of subscription television packages and sets the percentage limit for this update.
It establishes as well the percentage of the adjustments of the selling prices to the public from the electronic communication services in the mobile telephony segments as well as the composition and price of the basic tariff as a measure to support low-income consumers.
The instruction also requires the composition of the basic pay-TV package, the price and the terms of its publicity, as well as the reporting to INACOM of statistical indicators on this package.
The authorization of the adjustment of these services is made due to the negative inflation and the exchange rate variation in operating costs and the maintenance of the operator network.
The document says that after this measure, the operators will submit the adjustment of the respective packages to INACON to be re-analysed and, consequently, approved and after that within 30 days the operators will have to explain to customers how the services will work from now on, with the adjustments made.
The Angolan Communications Institute, under the supervision of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, has the mission of advising and representing the Government, by regulating, supervising and overseeing the electronic communications sector and postal services, ensuring quality of service in an environment of healthy competition.
