Cabinda - The governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu, said on Sunday that the start of the operationalization of TAAG passenger flights from António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) is a milestone that will bring benefits to the country's real economy.
Speaking to the press, regarding the arrival of the first passenger flight to the northernmost province of Angola, the governor stressed that the construction and start of operations in the new airport infrastructure also represents the commitment of the Angolan Government to the development of the country, in particular in the civil aviation sector.
She praised the integration of road and rail transport services, an aspect that will improve the flow of passengers.
As for the choice of Cabinda for the inaugural flight, she said it was the result of the importance that TAAG attaches to this route, as well as signaling the operator's willingness to overcome the challenges of transporting passengers to the region.
TAAG's inaugural flight (Boeing 737-700, registration D2 TBJ), from the AIAAN carried 92 passengers to Cabinda and returned with 99, including the governor of Cabinda, the chairman of the Executive Committee of TAAG, Nelson Oliveira. Also on board were employees of the new airport's operating ecosystem and journalists.
The operation culminated with the 'baptism' of the aircraft, in an act witnessed by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, among other entities.
AIAAN is, therefore, the second airport infrastructure in the country aligned with the internationally recommended standards of quality, safety and operational efficiency, after the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport.
For December, TAAG projects the progressive incorporation into the schedule of the routes in the Eastern region (Dundo, Saurimo and Luena) and Soyo, and should complete the transfer of the other domestic connections in the first quarter of 2025. ACC/VC/DOJ
