Cazenga - The minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, said Wednesday in Luanda that, as part of the preparation of the 2024 State Budget, 330 billion kwanzas have been made available for the country's textile sector.
With the aim of boosting the sector, the minister stressed that this amount would bring benefits for it will help stimulate production increase, as well as take care of cotton integration and production.
Speaking to the press at the end of a meeting with textile operators at the Textang II factory in the Municipality of Cazenga, in Luanda Province, the official said that cotton was still being imported.
"The Angolan government is making a commitment to be self-sufficient in cotton production by 2027, based on a restructuring that will make it possible to have sufficient logistics for domestic production by the beginning of 2025," he emphasized.
José de Lima Massano added that there is a set of needs that can be supported, through the banks, throughout the production chain.
To him, Textang II has begun to bear its first fruit, despite having a production capacity of 10%, it has a huge potential.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ALCAAL-Textang II group, Jorge Amaral, announced that there is a plan to plant cotton on a large scale over the next four years to make the textile industry self-sufficient.
During this process, he revealed that cotton will be imported to cover the needs of the factories.
He informed that the main objective will be self-sufficiency in the cotton produced in Angola, since there are 30,000 hectares available for this purpose, adding that there are already cotton farms in Baixa de Cassanje area, in the north-central Malanje Province, and gradually in other areas of the country.
The Chairman of the Textile and Clothing Industry Association of Angola, Luís Contreiras, believes that it is necessary and urgent to boost the textile sector so that, by 2027, more than 200,000 jobs will be created and 400 million garments produced per year.
Luís Contreiras explained that the textile and clothing sector employs many people worldwide, with a high production capacity.
