Luanda - The Minister of Transport, Ricardo d'Abreu, reiterated Friday in Luanda that the new Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport in Luanda would start full and unrestricted use in December 2023.
Speaking at the ceremony to welcome the experimental flight at Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, he stressed that, with this process, the country's aviation sector is at an advanced stage.
"Our future has already begun. And it couldn't start better than it is starting - with a just and deserved tribute to the one who was the first President of Angola (?) who managed to keep it united and indivisible, making it the firm trench of the revolution in Africa, towards self-determination and independence on the continent," he stressed.
The minister explained that, with the experimental flight, the process of certifying this international airport had begun, which would continue until the end of 2023, when its full and unrestricted use will begin.
At this stage, according to the holder of the portfolio, the country now has a true Civil Aviation Authority, the country's first independent administrative entity and a legal framework in perfect alignment with the guidelines of the Civil Aviation Organization.
"We have created new companies, specialized in their attributions, focused on high performance and results. And we created them with the status of public limited companies, in the future open to the interest of private investors. I am naturally talking about SGA and TAAG," he said.
The minister also noted that the country has a new public body, ENNA, focused on the control of air space and air navigation, which is undergoing an unprecedented modernization process and which will position itself as a reference on the continent and in the world, creating greater openness for those who wish to operate in the country in this sub-sector.
The process had the contribution of all the teams, dedicated and committed and the support of international specialists and of the world's own governing body, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
According to the cabinet official, the important of all the challenges was the change in the governance and management model of the new airport project, with the creation, on 5 October 2018, of the Operationalisation Office of the New International Airport, the body that takes over the management of the project.
