Caxito - Novagrolider Farm, the largest banana producer in northern Bengo province, suffered losses of around three million dollars due to flooding of agricultural fields due to the rain recorded throughout this year.
The information was revealed by Novagrolider's managing partner, José Macedo, who stressed that this situation has affected expectations for exporting various fruits to Europe.
José Macedo said that in 2023, Novagrolider Farm in Caxito exported around 15 thousand tons of various fruits to Europe.
“We did not reach the target of 20.000 tons of exports, because we lost a large part of the production due to the rain that caused flooding in the agricultural fields of Novagrolider Farm in Caxito”, he said.
In operation since 2010, NovagroLider produces more than 60 thousand tons of fruit annually, of which bananas constitute the main production. In addition to this, it also grows mango, pitaya, melon, watermelon, pineapple, papaya, pawpaw, passion fruit and guava.
It currently has over a thousand employees, including Angolans and expatriates.
Novagrolider is the largest farm in the Caxito irrigated perimeter, which today received a visit from the Secretary of State for Local Authorities, Fernando Manuel, as part of the process of transferring powers over the irrigated perimeters to the provincial governments. CJ/PA/DAN/DOJ
