Luanda – The National Reserve Bank of Angola (BNA) has said users in possession of Kwanza banknotes of the 2012 series must replace them with updated series of 2020 at the Central Bank and its regional branches, since the deadline to conduct these operations at commercial banks has expired.
According to the BNA's schedule, which establishes the timetable for the withdrawal of the Kwanza bills of the 2012 Series, the substitution period will extend to December 31 of 2026.
These are notes of 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 Kwanzas, all from the 2012 series, which are no longer accepted as means of payment, since January 1, 2022.
The schedule consulted by ANGOP provides that the deadline, until 2026, is to allowsa smooth exchange for the current 2020 series of the Angolan Kwanza (AKZ) notes.
Data provided in November 2021, by the BNA, showed that more than 85% of 2012 Series banknotes were already out of circulation.
