Luanda - A US cruise ship called Serenade of the Seas, belonging to Royal Caribbean, docked Sunday, at the Port of Luanda, Angola, with 767 tourists of various nationalities for a period of 10 hours.
The tourists were Belgian, Norwegian, Swiss, Americans and Portuguese, who will be travelling to the Republic of Ghana after Luanda.
While in Luanda, they will visit the Iron Palace, São Miguel Fortress, Remédios Church, Nossa Senhora da Nazaré Church, Anthropology Museum, Mussulo Island, Luanda Island and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.
José Cabral, managing director of “Travel Gest”, the company in charge of bringing cruise ships to Angola, said that by the end of the year three more ships are expected to dock in Angola.
He said the cruise ship seasons in Angola run from October to June, which is when the ships can travel through the country’s waters, having emphasized that the docking of ships marks the promotion of the country in the tourism route.
Despite the difficulties, he said that tourism plays a crucial role in the development of the Angolan economy, given that it has sufficient potential to boost this industry to raise revenues.
This is the 50th cruise ship travelling to Angola since October 2012, as part of the promotion of national tourism.
