Luanda - The Angolan minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen Neto, said Friday in Luanda that the Angolan fishing and oceanographic research vessel “Baía Farta” will be ready in two or three months, when the anomalies that were found during the first sea trial carried out in the country are overcome.
“During the sea trial held in 2021, which served to check whether the vessel is fit, a small anomaly was detected in some scientific research instruments, a situation that is being resolved in South Africa. However, the Baía Farta Ship will be here in two or three months to continue with the scientific research programme in the country”, he explained.
In response to ANGOP´s question, on the sidelines of the guided tour on board the Norwegian research vessel “Dr. Fridtjof Nansen”, which docked last Thursday in the port of Luanda, the minister denied information broadcasted by some media outlets, which suggest the possibility of the Baía Farta returning to its country of origin which is Romania.
According to Carmen Neto, this information is false because the Angolan ship is still within the guarantee plan.
The official clarified that their ship was not returned and is still within the guarantee plan. What we have done was to deliver it to Damen Shipyards Group, which is making the necessary adjustments, taking into account the first sea trial carried out in the country.
The Angolan ship, which arrived in the country in 2018, includes different aspects, namely scientific sophistication and technology, devices to search for events of microplastics and, for the fisheries sector, the assembly of an organised auction system.
The ship, budgeted at around USD 80 million, has an acoustic room, four laboratories, a gymnasium, double cabins, kitchen, service area with 15 control monitors and three computers for Sonar control system (an electronic device generally used in naval navigation to measure the distance between the water surface and the seabed), each of which carries out different tasks.
