Moçâmedes - India's ambassador to Angola, Vidhu Peethambaran Nair, on Wednesday expressed his country's interest in contributing to the development of the port and tourism sector in Angola’s Namibe province, taking into account its potential and geographical location.
The diplomat, who was speaking at a meeting with the Namibe business people, said that as a result of the three-day visit, he identified several opportunities for Indian business, with emphasis on port logistics, exploration of mining resources and the promotion of tourism activity.
Therefore, the ambassador assured that he will appeal to the business community of his country to assess the advantages of investing in the creation of infrastructure to support tourism, adding that investment in this sector will generate revenue and contribute to the development of Namibe, in particular.
'I visited some tourist attractions in Namibe and was impressed by the potential, but there were no tourists in these places. I think it is necessary to promote more and create support infrastructures, such as roads, signage and other support services', he stressed.
He also said that the population density forces his country to resort to importing fish, and he was willing to cooperate with entrepreneurs in the fishing sector with a view to exporting.
He invited the local business people to participate in this year's Angola-India business forum, aiming to promote trade and industrial partnerships, exchange of knowledge, investments and technology, as well as strengthen the local economy and expand business opportunities.
He also made a commitment to mobilize Indian companies to invest in agriculture, raising the possibility of supplying seeds, fertilizers and the availability of technology for agricultural development.
On the other hand, the Deputy Provincial Governor of Namibe for the political, social and economic sector, Abel Kapitango, considered the visit of the Indian delegation as timely, taking into account the efforts of the Provincial Government to promote economic potential, aiming to attract domestic and foreign investment.
The president of the provincial fisheries association, Jorge Hilário, said that the meeting allowed opportunities to be identified, showing expectation about the meeting between businessmen from the two countries scheduled for this year. VR/FA/QCB/DOJ
