Luanda - Angola's presence on the internet through the “ao” domain will be managed by the Information Society Development Institute (INFOSI), supervised by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information and Social Communication Technology (MINTTICS) as from this Wednesday.
Previously, this domain was managed by companies in the sector, with international support.
To carry out this process, the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, today officially launched the system that gives sovereignty and dynamization of the internet in Angola.
The government official pointed to Angola's alignment with the best international practices in the use and management of the internet as one of the main transformative benefits of the ao domain.
With this, he added, currently, the domain is now configured and made available in cyberspace, with the monitoring and management of registered addresses, prior approval of entities and the inhibition of the registration of protected domains.
The minister recalled that, on June 26th of this year, the effective implementation of a “Core System”, hosted and managed in Angola, was concluded.
The Core System is a state-of-the-art technology used in several countries, placing domains at the level of the main ones in the world, with a view to having more efficient and secure management.
He mentioned that Angola's Core System CCTLD brought technical conditions for the country to be accepted for the application and registration of the domain, an action that from now on will be done in a safer way and capable of serving more customers, allowing adequate support for resellers of smaller size, such as small agencies and entrepreneurs.
“We will manage all activities with the EPP protocol, internationally agreed for interoperability between all domains and their economic agents spread around the world”, he highlighted.
In turn, the general director of INFOSI, André Pedro, considered Angola's digital management and sovereignty as an act of absolute control of national domains, having as its root ao and other subdomains derived from it, such as .ORG.ao, .Edu.ao, .Co.ao and .It.ao.
He highlighted that any global domain with the ending .ao must point to Angola, like .com, which is used worldwide.
He pointed out that .ao belongs to the Angolan Government, and domain concessions will be made for a period of one or five years, renewable.
He said that, for the use of this domain, It.ao is available, at a cost of five thousand kwanzas, for a renewable period of one year.
According to the director, legalization guarantees security in electronic commerce, which will allow website owners to be identified, with name, telephone number and address.
He added that from June 26th to date they have received more than a million requests, which will be made official from today. The operation and resolutions will be assisted by artificial intelligence. ML/QCB/DOJ
