Luanda – Angolan minister of Transport Ricardo D'Abreu Friday in Luanda called for joint actions by African ports, with a view to reducing carbon emissions, in a progressive process of energy transition.
He said that the transition is a difficult challenge that is why this process should be progressive, especially in less advanced economies, which depend on oil for energy production.
According to Ricardo D'Abreu, States need to prepare themselves to stop depending excessively on fossil energy, without disrupting their economies.
On the challenges of the energy and digital transition, the minister said that, among other actions, Angola had implemented the Single Port Window, a tool aimed at ensuring greater efficiency and productivity in port activity, seeking to achieve the so-called “smart ports”.
The minister stated this during the closing session of the 42nd Annual Council of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), which took place from the 15th to the 18th, in the Angolan capital.
“Planet Earth is the only common home we have and the most promising future of the new generations will depend on its best preservation. We need to work together to leave our children a more ecologically viable world”, he concluded.
During the four-day event, the managers of ports in Africa discussed ongoing environmental sustainability policies and the challenges of port and maritime ecosystems.
Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) was created in 1972 and Angola became a member in 1986, during the 12th Annual Council held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
