Luanda - The Luachimo Hydroelectric Plant, in the province of Lunda-Norte, will be inaugurated this Friday by the minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges.
This is a structuring and strategic infrastructure that has a new hydraulic circuit and power station with 34 MW of installed capacity, equipped with four generator sets of 8.5 MW each, according to a note from the ministry to which ANGOP had access.
The work consisted of rehabilitating the existing project and increasing its electricity production capacity to meet the needs of Lunda-Norte.
The document adds that the project had an execution period of 87 months, created 1,000 direct jobs and covered a population of around 10,000 families.
The Luachimo dam, built in the 1950s to supply electricity to the city of Dundo and the nearby mining areas, now has a new circuit.
According to the press release, following his mission to the east of the country, the minister will witness the consignment and laying of the foundation stone for the 86 kilometre Dundo and Nzagi Corridor line construction project.
This project is part of the objectives set by the Angolan government to guarantee the population's access to electricity and improve social conditions, as well as developing the agricultural, farming and mining sectors.
To this end, this plan was drawn up to rehabilitate the existing line between Luachimo Hydroelectric Plant (AH Luachimo) and Nzagi Electricity Substation (SE Nzagi). It is about the rehabilitation of the Nzagi and Fucauma substations and electrifying the communes of Mucumbo, Fucauma, Cassanguidi, Luxilo and Nzagi.
The 30 Kv MV distribution network and the Low Voltage (LV) distribution network will be built in these towns, as well as the installation of the respective transformer substations (PT), in addition to the construction of around 1,500 new household connections and 500 public lighting points.
