Kampala – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, has been in Kampala, Uganda, since late afternoon on Thursday to participate in the extraordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union on the Comprehensive Programme for the Development of Agriculture in Africa (CAADP).

At Entebbe International Airport, the head of Angolan diplomacy, who is accompanied by the Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, received welcome greetings from the outgoing non-resident ambassador of Angola to Uganda, Sianga Abílio, and an official of the State Protocol of this country in the Great Lakes region.

The extraordinary meeting started this Thursday with the ministerial session of those responsible for Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment and extends until Saturday (11).

The event will review Angola's Memorandum of Participation in the Ministerial Sessions on CAADP, its Draft Strategy and Action Plan for the period 2026-2036 and the Draft Kampala Declaration on Building Resilient and Sustainable Agri-Food Systems in Africa.

Since its inception in 2003 in Maputo, the Comprehensive Programme for the Development of Agriculture in Africa has played a crucial role in agricultural transformation on the continent, with the aim of increasing food security and nutrition, reducing rural poverty, creating jobs and contributing to economic development and safeguarding the environment.

CAADP aims to achieve an annual growth rate of 6% in the agricultural sector by allocating at least 10% of the budgets of African Union member states to agriculture.

During the first decade of its agenda, the Maputo Declaration (2003-2013) achieved positive results, namely, the signing of the CAADP compacts by 45 AU Member States that initiated the National Agricultural Investment Plans (NAIPs), aligned with the CAADP. HM/VC/DOJ
