Luanda - The minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos dos Santos, recognises the commitment and “unquestionable role of professionals in the sector” for maintaining, with selflessness and patriotism, their focus on building an increasingly modern Angola, a mission made possible by National Independence in 1975.
This recognition comes on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of Builder's Day, marked on 3 December, at a time when Angola is receiving an unprecedented visit from US President Joe Biden, who is on a three-day working agenda in the country, focusing on the construction of rail and energy infrastructures in Africa.
In a press release ANGOP had access Tuesday, the minister also pointed to the continued construction of decent housing for Angolans and public infrastructures that stimulate growth and the harmonious economic development of the country as the main challenges in this sector.
According to Carlos dos Santos, the achievement of these challenges, included in the 2023/2027 National Development Plan (PDN), requires a joint effort by the public and private sectors to keep the sector among those that generate the most jobs, as well as continuing to bring Angolans together by road, shortening physical, cultural and psychological distances.
On this date, which marks the 47th anniversary of Builder's Day, the minister considers it appropriate to pay tribute to all its forerunners, especially Angola's first president, António Agostinho Neto, who created the event on 3 December 1977, after visiting housing buildings in Golfe neighbourhood in Luanda.
Likewise, the ministerial department recognises the efforts of contractors, architects, inspectors, artisans, professional associations and other social partners who work together for a better Angola.
