Luanda- The inauguration and onset of industrial production of the Luaxe kimberlitic, with estimated reserves of 350 million carats of diamonds is expected to take place this year, a project, whose aim is to increase annual production by more than 13 million carats.
Located in the eastern region of Angola between Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul provinces, the mine has a concession area of 1195 km2, in which the project shareholders are Catoca Mining Society, ENDIAMA E.P and other national companies.
According to the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Victor, everything points to the mine starting operations before the end of this year, after successive postponements due to technical reasons.
The announcement about the Luaxe mine coming into operation has been made since 2017.
Speaking to the press, on preparations for the VIII Extended Consultative Council of the diamond sector set for May 11 and 12, Jancio Victor said the Luaxe mine is considered as the first line at international level.
"Just saying that the inauguration will possibly be this year, but I don't know yet when," the official said without announcing dates.
Angola's aim is to be one of the world's top three diamond producers.
