Luanda – The Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP) and the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN) Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure better quality of research reports on socioeconomic studies in the country and help making of decision, the minister Mário Caetano João has said
Caetano João, who signed the agreement, said this protocol is part of a strategy by the MEP to dialogue more and involve the academy in the preparation of scientific studies of the socioeconomic reality of the country.
“From now on, MEP and UCAN will draw up an agenda for possible studies to be conducted, and design scientific events for certain issues, from
the perspective of academia”, said Mário Caetano João.
According to the minister, the institution will also sign protocol with the Agostinho Neto University. The Ministry has been working with the
Country’s agrarian universities, as part of the promotion of the Support for Production, Diversification of Exports and Replacement of
Imports (Prodesi).
In turn, the Dean of the Catholic University of Angola, Maria de Assunção, said this memorandum points the way to a new reality, the conciliation among academia, reality and economic policies developed by the Angolan Executive.
Basics of the memo
The memorandum of understanding aims at cooperation in sharing information, holding professional internships, events and visits, as well as in carrying out joint socio-economic studies.
Among the specific objectives, integration stands out, when possible, of UCAN students in the field visits carried out by the MEP to assess sector and provincial policy performance socio-economic as well as private sector projects.
UCAN, in turn, pledges to conduct socioeconomic studies, that precede or support the formulation and implementation of socioeconomic policies to support development, among others actions.
The Ministry of Economy and Planning will finance or co-finance some joint projects and facilitate the insertion of students and new university graduates
in different international organisations specialised in economics.
