Luanda - The commander of the Angolan Navy (MGA), Admiral Valentim António, on Wednesday, in the Province of Luanda, announced the intensification of maritime security in oil zones, aiming for better control in areas of development in the country.

The admiral spoke during the meeting with representatives from the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency, the Ministry of Fisheries and the Ministry of the Interior, the provincial government, as well as fishermen's associations.

He said that a large number of fishing boats invade the perimeters of oil blocks, thus interrupting, among others, seismic research work, which jeopardizes the safety of exploration activity.

According to Valentim António, the objective is to maintain the security of the common good for the benefit of the country, as these are areas of social and economic development.

The official referred to blocks 17 and 32 and called on fishermen to avoid such practices, otherwise they would face legal action, in order to guarantee the protection and exploitation of maritime resources.

The commander highlighted that, since 2022, more than 40,000 intruders have been blocked in the oil zones, even though they are areas with prohibition signs.
