Mbanza-Kongo – At least 240 trucks loaded with various goods bound for the Province of Cabinda and also Kinshasa have been stranded for more than two weeks on the border between Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The unilateral measure taken by the border authorities in the Central Congo (DRC) region is creating constraints for truck drivers, who transport perishable products in addition to other goods.
To try to overcome the situation, a delegation from the Angola Association of Road Transporters of Goods (ATROMA), led by its executive chairperson, António Gavião Neto, traveled on Thursday to the border commune of Luvo, municipality of Mbanza-Kongo.
Speaking to the press, the official deplored the unilateral measure taken by the Congolese authorities, for whom this behavior undermines the good friendly ties existing between the two neighboring countries.
“We regret the position taken by the authorities of this country, which has a centuries-old relationship of friendship and brotherhood with Angola”, he deplored, stressing that resolving this problem transcends ATROMA’s capacity.
He informed that the ATROMA delegation will travel, on Friday, to the border municipality of Nóqui where there is also an identical scenario.
During their stay in the border commune of Luvo, ATROMA members tried, without success, to establish contact with the DRC customs authorities.
Due to geographic discontinuity, trucks destined for the Province of Cabinda, northern Angola, transit through the territory of this neighboring country, transporting various goods.
ATROMA controls 52 freight transport companies, totaling 5 thousand trucks across the country.
