Ondjiva - At least 400 young people from different religious denominations and youth associations in the southern Cunene Province marched on Monday in different places of the city of Ondjiva, in favour of the General Population and Housing Census, set to take place in July.
Speaking to ANGOP, the director of Cunene's culture, tourism, youth and sports office, Nelson Ndemulikuata, said that the event was part of the April Youth Month and aimed to disseminate information about the General Census-2024 to the local population.
He said that the intention was to sensitise the population to join the process, welcome the census teams at the time of the process, with a view to the success of the census in the country.
The official stressed the importance of raising awareness among young people to participate in public life, in the field of moralising society, as well as in the practice of sport.
He called on young people to mobilise their communities about the objectives and importance of the population and housing census.
In addition to the march, he emphasised that in celebration of youth month a series of activities are taking place, such as workshops and talks, visits to tourist sites, a meeting with the youth of the municipality of Curoca, a youth entrepreneurship fair, a football championship and a youth bonfire.
Angolan Youth Day is celebrated on 14 April and this year it takes place under the slogan "Empowered Youth, Developed Angola".
The 2024 General Population and Housing Census, will take place on 19 July next year, and the work is being carried out by the Multisectoral Commission to Support the Carrying Out of the Census, approved by Presidential Order no. 290/22, of 30 December.
