Luanda - Inflation in Angola, measured by the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN), recorded a variation of 2.49% from December 2023 to January 2024, recording an acceleration in the current variation of 1.66% year-on-year (January 2023 to January 2024), ANGOP learned today, Thursday.

According to the Quick Information Sheet (FIR) of the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) of the National Statistics Institute (INE), comparing monthly variations (December 2023 to January 2024) there is an acceleration of 0.07 %.

INE says that the provinces that recorded the lowest price variation were Moxico with 1.47%, Lunda Norte, with 1.53% and Benguela with 1.58%.

The provinces that recorded the greatest variation in prices were Luanda, with 3.40%, Huíla, with 2.04% and Namibe, with 1.99%.

Variation by expense classes at Year-on-year variation The “Health” class was the one that recorded the biggest price increase, with a variation of 3.15%. In this segment, the price increases seen in the categories “Miscellaneous goods and services” with 2.98%, “Food and non-alcoholic drinks” with 2.94% and “Clothing and footwear” with 2.54% also stand out.

The year-on-year variation stands at 21.99%, registering an increase of 9.44 percentage points compared to that observed in the same period of the previous year (January 2023). Comparing the current year-on-year variation with that recorded in the previous month, there is an acceleration of 1.98 percentage points.

The “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” class, contribution per expense, was the one that contributed most to the increase in the general price level with 1.74 percentage points during the month of January, followed by the “Miscellaneous goods and services” classes with 0 .21, “Health” with 0.13 percentage points, “Clothing and footwear” with 0.1% and the remaining classes had contributions lower than 0.10%.HM/ASS/TED/DOJ
