Lubango - The Indian ambassador to Angola, Vidhu Peethambaran Nair on Thursday, in Lubango city, central Huila province, said his country intends to strengthen relations with Huíla's business class in agriculture and mining sectors.
Speaking at a meeting with Huíla's business community, the diplomat said Angola has "great" agricultural potential and India can be a market for the surplus.
"There are many exotic products that Angola produces and some can be exported to India," the ambassador said.
The diplomat said his country is interested in the province's mineral resources and that after this first contact there would be others between the Angolan and Indian business community, in their most diverse areas, so that they could discuss investment possibilities.
As regard to tourism, another area of interest for India, Vidhu Peethambaran Nair said Huíla has many tourist sites that could attract tourists, but lack potential infrastructure to make them profitable.
The diplomat said the exemption from tourist visas that Angola has opened for the country is an asset, as India has more than 500 million middle-class people.
Huíla's Department director for Integrated Economic Development, Domingos Calumana, said the province has the largest mining complex in the country due to the variety of mineral resources, as well as the second largest river, the Cunene River.
Calumuna listed four gold mining companies, 19 ornamental rock mining companies, a niobium project, an iron project, phosphate, limestone and other minerals that currently operate in the region.MS/MS/AMP
