Luanda - The Institute of Administrative Modernisation of Angola (IMA) and the US Multinational Microsoft signed a memoThursday, in Luanda, to solidify the digital economy in the country.

According to the IMA director-general, Meick Afonso, the intention will be accomplished through small and medium entrepreneurs, who will be able to access Microsoft technology at a subsidised cost or free of charge to leverage their business via digital means. 

Afonso said that the respective partnership will also strengthen the State's capacity in the digitisation field and reduce the costs of public administration to increase the scale of technology adoption according to the reality of the country.

In addition, he said, the memorandum will support digital inclusion education, maily for teachers, underlining that if for instance, some 200,000 teachers adopt technological means to teach, they would have the capacity to reach at least 10 million students, counting on the digital expansion.

For the director-general, the partnership with Microsoft represents an important step towards promoting the digitisation of the Angolan state's administrative services to make life easier for citizens and boost the economy.

The director of Microsoft's digital development programme, André Azevedo turn, said the signing of the agreement is a strategic partnership to accelerate the digitisation process and contribute to the country's socio-economic development.

According to him, the document signed will bring a new dynamic and ensure quality of public service provided to citizens, adding that both parties are working on a strategy to implement the Digital Acceleration Project in Angola to be developed over a period of three years.

The signing of the agreement was witnessed by the minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, is part of Microsoft's strategy to support developing countries.

The Institute of Administrative Modernisation of Angola is tasked with designing and implementing policy measures to support administrative modernisation, as well as designing and implementing the alignment model between Public Governance and electronic Governance.

Microsoft is an American multinational that develops, manufactures, licences, supports and sells computer software, electronic products, computers and personal services. QCB/BA/Amp/jmc
