Luanda – A concession agreement for the installation and operation of a photovoltaic solar plant in Quilemba, Lubango city, southern province of Huíla, was signed this week.

Struck the deal TotalEnergies in Angola, Sonagás and Greentech companies,  according to a press release reached ANGOP this Friday.

The source states that the concession, with the authorisation of the Regulatory Institute for Electricity and Water Services (IRSEA) of the Ministry of Energy and Water of Angola, announced the construction of the plant in 2023.

It predicted the start-up of the project by 2024, in an operation of the unit for up to 25 years.

The project foresees an installed capacity of 35 Megawatts (MW) of solar energy, in a first phase, to which 45 MW will be added, in a later phase.

The investment is secured by the project's promoters, Total Energies Angola, 51 percent, Sonagás, 30 percent, and Greentech, with 19 percent.

When it comes into operation, this solar park will provide competitive solar energy to the Angolan grid, as well as saving fuel, estimated at more than USD 20 million per year, compared to existing thermal plants.
