Huambo – The governor of the province of Huambo, Pereira Alfredo, on Wednesday stated that this region of the country is working to be at the forefront in attracting private investments for the Lobito Corridor.

The governor was speaking to the press, in the commune of Calima, municipality of Huambo, after noticing works paralyzed for more than 10 years in the sectors of health, education, roads and social action, some included in the 2025 General State Budget (OGE), which will deserve the attention of the government.

Pereira Alfredo said that the province has a crucial role in the production of basic commodities and other exportable goods, inserted in the Lobito Corridor, for this reason two major infrastructures will be built, namely the Caála Industrial Development Pole and the Logistics Platform.

To him, more than building these two infrastructures, he is also ensuring that there is local production, to feed this corridor, which transcends Angola and reaches the world.

Regarding this aim, he emphasized that work should be carried out to encourage the local business class, so that hey  can take advantage of the maximum potential with the advent of this powerful infrastructure in Southern Africa, which, at the level of the railways, has already begun to feel the impact of benefits.

When talking about the recovery of silos, Pereira Alfredo informed that some could be transferred to the private sphere, as part of the Angolan State's asset privatization program, while others could be reevaluated to obtain the best profits, to support local production.

The Lobito Corridor is a strategic route of great economic and logistical importance for Angola and the Southern African region, connecting the Port of Lobito, located on the Atlantic coast to countries without access to the sea, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia.

It is an important corridor, which serves as an essential route for the export and import of goods, especially minerals such as copper, cobalt and other resources extracted in the DRC and Zambia, offering a global market with reduced logistical costs for these countries.
