Moçamedes - The hotels and tourism sector in Namibe Province guaranteed, in 2024, 3,626 direct jobs, the director of the provincial office of culture, tourism and environment, Pedro Hangula, informed on Monday.
Speaking to ANGOP, the official said that the province has 251 units to support tourist activity, including 38 restaurants, three hotels, seven residential guesthouses, eight tourist villages, six travel and tourism agencies and 23 lodges.
Pedro Hangula said that the Hotel Moçâmedes will be reopened this month and, in the first half of the year, the Camping Park will also be reopened, in addition to a new resort that will come into operation.
He added that the province has 167 tour guides catalogued, 54 of whom are registered and legalized.
“The the number of legalized guides is insufficient, causing some disruption in the promotion of tourism, taking into account the number of tourist guides that are requested, especially on weekends”, he added.
He revealed that 31 tour guides were trained in 2024 and more than 70 benefited from the same training in the current year.
In 2024, the province of Namibe recorded visits from around 10 thousand tourists, national and foreign, compared to 8,766 in 2023.
It should be noted that the majority of foreign tourists are South Africans, Namibians and Portuguese.
The Namib Desert, the Hills, the arch lake, the Lona National Park, Soba and Mariquita beaches and the natural pools of Piambo, are the most visited places.
