Luau - Construction work on the 32.2 Megawatt Solar Photovoltaic Plant Park in the border municipality of Luau, Moxico province, will end in December 2025, the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos said.
The Secretary of State for Energy visited the works, whose level of physical execution is around 50 percent, which allowed him to predict that they will be completed by “the end of the third quarter or beginning of the fourth quarter of 2025”.
With the capacity to supply energy to more than 100 thousand inhabitants, the Luau Photovoltaic Park, to be supported by batteries with up to 79.77 MW/hour, is the second to be built in the province of Moxico, after Luena, of 26 Mw of capacity.
Luau currently receives energy from a 5 MW generator set, far from the demand of a municipality inhabited by more than 100 thousand inhabitants.
The photovoltaic plant, with 55,500 panels, was developed by an international consortium composed of the companies Sun África and MCA, as well as those in the provinces of Benguela (Baía Farta and Biópio), Huambo (Bailundo), Bié (Cuito), Lunda -North (Lucapa) and Lunda-Sul (Saurimo).
The Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, also highlighted the progress of work on the equipment that will reduce the sharp deficit in energy supply in that municipality that borders the DRC and Zambia.
The Angolan government hopes that the construction of the seven parks in the country will make it possible to provide clean and renewable energy to around 2.4 million Angolans, contributing to the annual reduction of polluting emissions of around one million tons of carbon dioxide. YD/DOJ
