Benguela - Angolan government is committed to continue supporting the growth of the agri-livestock sector, the provincial governor of Benguela, Luís Nunes, has said.
The governor was speaking at the opening of the fair and agri-livestock exhibition that brought together 90 exhibitors, including cooperatives and associations and 35 agri-business companies.
The governor attributed the positive growth and evolution of the sector to investments made by entrepreneurs in creating and improving farms and production centres, acquisition of breeding animals, equipment and specialised consultancy.
Nunes added that these investments in inland areas have made it possible to create jobs, share scientific knowledge with local pastoral communities, which has resulted in changes in the health conditions of native herds.
He also stated that the natural and geographic conditions of Benguela represent a great competitive advantage for the diversification of the economy, being fundamental to follow a development plan in which the State has a driving role, where the private sector will be the great actor.
He urged entrepreneurs of the agricultural and fishing sector to improve their organisational mechanisms to be eligible under the major programmes outlined by the Angolan government.
The fair and livestock exhibition ran until Sunday and closed with a livestock auction.
