Luanda - The minister of Industry and Trade Victor Fernandes on Friday said that Angola is expected to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2027 due to the growing national agricultural production capacity in the country
Victor Fernandes, who was speaking at “Dialogue with the Minister” session, highlighted that this is an “achievable goal”, through the implementation of food production programs for cereals, livestock and fisheries.
The minister mentioned some products that are on the path to self-sufficiency, including corn production, with a significant increase since the year 2020, a fact that will allow the Strategic Food Reserve (REA) not to import this cereal this year.
Victor Fernandes stated that Angola is positioned among the largest producers of cassava and banana in Africa; and local factories are ready to produce enough cooking oil to supply the country.
The minister called for investment in an industry segment that seeks local raw materials, with focus in agricultural, livestock, mining and marine resources.
The “Dialogue with the Minister” is an initiative of this ministry, for the scrutiny of government action, based on the slogan of political orientation for the 2023-2027 government cycle, 'Work More and Communicate Better'. OPF/AC/DOJ
