Luanda - The Government plans to privatize, in 2024, 31 of the 63 assets available within the framework of the Privatization Program (PROPRIV 2023-2026), the head of the privatization department of the Institute for Management of State Assets and Participations (IGAPE), João Sionguele, said Thursday in Luanda.
Speaking at the seminar, promoted by the Institute of Management of State Assets and Participations (IGAPE), in partnership with the Association of Economic Journalists (AJECO), he highlighted that among the assets stand out ENSA, TV Cabo and 39 hotel units.
João Sionguele recalled that in 2023 around 11 assets were privately owned, with a contracted value of around 49 billion kwanzas. The head of the Privatization Department reinforced that, since the execution of PROPRIV, around 600 billion kwanzas have been received.
According to him, 103 assets were privatized in PROPRIV, with a contractual value of 1.03 billion kwanzas.
João Sionguele stressed that of the total privatized, around 70% of the contracted value corresponds to awards to foreign companies.
For his part, the president of the board of directors of the Association of Economic Journalists (AJECO), João José Joaquim, considered the approach to the privatization process to be of great interest, raising some doubts and misinterpretation of the numbers of the process carried out.
João José Joaquim reinforced that there was a need to reinforce the knowledge of journalists, with articles that have to do with the complex privatization process in the country.
“I hope that the exercise carried out contributes in some way to improving our materials, produced in our newsrooms”, he said. Approved in 2019, through Presidential Decree nº 250/19 of 5 August, PROPRIV
aims to reduce State intervention in the economy and promote business development, stimulating competition, competitiveness and efficiency of the national economy.
Initially scheduled to be implemented in the period 2019-2022, with a total of 195 public assets to be privatized, PROPRIV was extended to the period 2023-2026, through Presidential Decree nº 78/23 of 28 March.
The extension of the deadline is justified by the need to complete the restructuring processes, which include national reference companies, the emergence of new assets to be privatized through the asset recovery process and the need to create an active mechanism for privatization.
With this, it is expected that a total of 73 assets will be privatized for the defined period. Among the companies listed for PROPRIV, major references stand out, such as the oil company Sonangol, Transportadora Aérea Angolana (TAAG) and Endiama.
The process of selling the respective assets is carried out through the public tender system, stock exchange auction and initial public offering. HM/AC/TED/DOJ
