Luanda - The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), a body under the Ministry of Transport, and representatives of the main taxi driver associations and cooperatives said on Thursday that "there will be no immediate change in the taxi fares in force" as a result of the recent adjustment of the price of diesel, which now costs 300 kwanzas/liter.
This follows an assessment between the two parties, who met with the aim of discussing the impact of the increase in the price of diesel, as well as to maintain an open and transparent dialogue with occasional passenger transport operators, ANGOP has learned.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport, the parties concluded that the current cost structure of taxi operators already includes the variation in fuel prices, both for diesel and gasoline vehicles.
For this reason, the statement added, ANTT and the Luanda Provincial Office of Transport, Traffic and Mobility are committed to closely monitoring developments in the sector and to ensure that any need for adjustment is discussed in a transparent and responsible manner.
Prior to this measure, the last diesel price adjustment was on April 23, 2024, when the liter was increased to 200 kwanzas.
This adjustment stems from Joint Executive Decree 81/23 of June 1, which establishes the gradual transition of oil derivative prices to levels closer to market values, in accordance with Presidential Decree 283/20, a mechanism that provides for a flexible adjustment system based on import and export parity.
The Angolan government decided to gradually adjust petroleum products to market levels by 2025, starting with a change in the price of gasoline in June 2023, from 160 kwanzas to the current 300 kwanzas. QCB/TED/AMP
