Lubango – The Minister of State for economic coordination, José de Lima Massano, reaffirmed Thursday, in Lubango city, that the government will continue to support the country's cattle breeders to reduce meat and milk imports.

Speaking at the opening of the 20th edition of the Huíla Cattle Fair, the minister said this will boost the quality and quantity of food consumption.

According to the minister, since 2023, beef imports have reduced to 43 percent, as a result of an investment made worth 330 billion kwanzas the government made available to respond to food security, where cattle breeders play a key role.

The minister said a set of support instruments have been made available for those targeted, through public guarantee systems, guarantee funds and sovereign guarantees, for the growth of the agricultural and farming sector in Angola.

“Despite some current economic and financial difficulties, the Angolan government is implementing programs with collective resilience, capable of overcoming the challenges imposed and, therefore, achieving the objectives of supporting cattle breeders and farmers and beyond”, Massano said.

On the other hand, he considered the holding of the cattle fair to be positive, an event that has become a “tradition” in the east and south of the country. JT/MS/AMP
