Saurimo - The governor of Lunda-Sul, Daniel Neto, stated on Thursday, Jan 10, in Saurimo, that the partnership between the Government and the Catoca Mining Society has contributed significantly to the development of the province.

Speaking to the press, regarding the private sector's contribution to the province's development, Daniel Neto acknowledged that as a result of a memorandum of understanding between the government and the diamond company, the energy, water, education and agriculture sectors registered significant growth.

Among the actions supported by the mining society, he highlighted the rehabilitation of the Chicapa Water Treatment Plant (ETA), in Saurimo, the “Catoca Académico”, “Catoca Student”, “Rural Woman” and “Jovem Empreendedor” programs.

He added that the programs have benefited low-income families, facilitating the purchase of school materials, tuition fees payment, acquisition of agricultural seeds to increase the region's agricultural production.

He highlighted that the institution played a crucial role in the implementation of higher education in the province, having at the time transferred 80% of its staff to teach at the Lunda-Sul's Polytechnic Higher School, which is part of the Lueji A'Nkonde University.

He pointed out that Catoca Mining Society has also been an important employment youth promoter.
