Ambriz - Angola's natural gas resources are estimated at about 95 trillion cubic feet, of which 35.74 trillion are discovered resources, while the other part corresponds to resources from identified prospects, said the Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Barroso, on Tuesday in Bengo province.
José Barroso made the statement in the municipality of Ambriz, following the handover of the Quiluma platform, built by the Petromar company, to the consortium of oil companies Azule Energy, Total Energy, Chevron Compani and Sonangol Energy.
The official stressed that the country's natural gas reserves were estimated at 5.8 trillion cubic feet in 2023, and that the continuous expansion of oil production has increased natural gas production to more than two billion cubic feet per day, which is currently set at 2.7 billion cubic feet per day.
As for the plant where the platform will be located in Zaire Province, the official said it has a processing capacity of 1.0.75 billion cubic feet per day and a production capacity of 5.2 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas and other by-products.
The official called for strategic, efficient and responsible management that guarantees the sustainable use of this non-renewable resource and promotes the well-being of the population in the medium and long term.
Barroso explained that the market for this product in Angola has enormous potential and can be used for liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum and electricity generation, among others.
"The plan approved in 2024 aims, among other things, to establish an investment strategy for projects using natural gas and to guarantee energy sustainability at low cost by replacing more polluting fuels in electricity generation," Barroso said. SJ/VC/AMP
