Luena - A fair of agricultural products, artefacts and gastronomy from Moxico, with a turnover of 260 million kwanzas, opened this Friday in Luena, in honour of the 107th anniversary of the founding of the province.
According to the event's coordinator, Ismael Quintas Keshipoko, over four days the fair will bring together around 150 exhibitors of rural products, which include maize, millet and sorgo, fishing activities, fish farming and the provision of various public services.
In addition to the products from the countryside, she said, various provincial offices will be able to provide specific services on site, from processing business licences, setting up cooperatives and registering employees with the Social Security Institute, among others.
Arminda da Tchinhama, a market trader, said she was going to take advantage of the event to establish partnerships with other organisations, as well as taking advantage of other business opportunities.
The municipal administrator of Luchazes, Quintas Sempieca, said that this region of the province would be demonstrating its potential, with emphasis on the agricultural sector, fishing and honey production.
For the municipal administrator of Cameia, António Fidel Chinhama Willis, the event will serve to demonstrate the potential of fish, citrus fruits, bananas and rice.
Moxico was elevated to a province on 15 September 1917 by Decree 3365. It is Angola's largest province, occupying 17% of the national territory, with an area of around 223,023 square kilometres.
It is administratively organised into nine municipalities: Alto-Zambeze, Bundas, Camanongue, Léua, Luacano, Luau, Luchazes, Cameia and Moxico (provincial seat).
The provincial seat is the city of Luena, which concentrates more than 40 per cent of the population of around 1.2 million inhabitants. MT/TC/YD/DAN/DOJ
