Lubango - Six hundred heads of improved cattle are put up for auction at the 18th Huila Farming Fair, which begins Thursday as part of the Festivities of Our Lady of the Hill (Festas de Nossa Senhora do Monte), the patron saint of Lubango City.

The event, which runs until Saturday, was scheduled for this Wednesday, but at the last minute it was moved to Thursday.

This is an initiative of the Southern Angola Cattle Breeders Cooperative (CCGSA). It exhibits improved breeds produced locally, such as the white and red brahman, bosmara, nelore, simmentaller and other 278 bulls of indigenous breeds.

The event’s business volume is estimated at 300 million kwanzas, 107.8 million more is comparison to the previous edition.

According to the general secretary of CCGSA, Carlos Damião who spoke to ANGOP Tuesday, there are registered 20 farms, among business and traditional ones from Huíla and Cunene Provinces, stating that more than 100 temporary jobs were created.

The official said that all conditions for the holding of the event have already been created and they are only waiting for the start of the event.

“We’d like more participation from members, as of the 85, only 20 are exhibiting”, said the official, adding that the event also included three workshops on African swine fever, contagious foot and mouth disease and the situation of cattle and goats, as well as health care, in addition to the exhibition of cattle sellers and delivering of prizes.

In the 2021 event, 400 improved breed cattle were exhibited.

Created in 2005, the Southern Angola Cattle Breeders Cooperative (CCGSA) aims to defend its 85 members interest, among large, medium and small farmers.
