Lubango – The 20th edition of the Huíla Agricultural Fair, to be held in Lubango from 15 to 18 August, will showcase 700 heads of improved cattle, 300 of which will be auctioned, where business is expected to be worth around 300 million kwanzas.

Compared to the same period in 2023, there is an increase of 300 heads on display, due to the mobilisation of 40 more farmers from Benguela, Cuando Cubango, Namibe, Cuanza Sul, Cunene and Huíla.

Speaking to the press about the preparations for the event, the general secretary of the Southern Angola Cattle Breeders' Cooperative (CCGSA), Carlos Damião, stated that exhibitors will bring breeds such as Brahman, Brangus, Canchim, Guzerá, Hereford, Nelore, Senepol and traditional cattle.

He said that the fair will include an exhibition of sheep, goats and poultry, although pigs are currently not possible due to the problems of the swine fever that devastated the southern region of the country
in the first half of the year.

He stressed that, in addition to the fair, workshops will be held with breeders, with emphasis on preventing cattle theft and on swine fever, and that topics will be analysed for the preparation of the 2024-2028 General Assembly.

The event is part of the economic programme of the “Nossa Senhora do Monte” Festival, which kicks off this Thursday, 1 August. JT/MS/TED/DOJ
