Benguela - Two tonnes of fish, tilapia (tilapia), will be processed daily at Fazenda NR, in Dombe Grande commune, Baía Farta municipality, in Benguela, ANGOP learned on Saturday.

According to its owner, Nélson Rodrigues, the fish farming project at Fazenda NR, which began in 2021, already has eight tilapia tanks and one catfish tank, still in the experimental phase.

According to Rodrigues, the fish will be sold from January 2025 onwards, and two tonnes per day are expected to be processed.

Nélson Rodrigues said that the main destination for the product will be the Benguela market and large retailers, through partnerships.

He said that, at the moment, each 50x8m tank has around 100,000 relieves.

He said that tilapia reproduce quickly, but the difficulty in acquiring feed has made fattening difficult, which slows down the process.

The businessman said that one of Fazenda NR's challenges will be to acquire a small factory to make its own feed to feed the fish.

He said that as soon as the factory was set up, more tanks would be built to increase fish production.

Without specifying quantities, Nélson Rodrigues made it known that the first cacko had already been removed, which was only for internal consumption at the farm.

He guaranteed that the project has enough tilapia and catfish to supply commercial outlets.

The businessman also said that the project also included the purchase of refrigerated vans to transport the fish to other locations.

Asked if he had received support from the banks to realise his project, Nélson Rodrigues said that he had not, despite the government's project to support the promotion of fish farming. CRB/DAN/DOJ
