Malanje- A new production line for banana bread and fried cassava is being tested at the “Palanca” potato chip factory, as part of its strategy to overcome the shortage of reindeer potatoes (its main raw material) on the national market and diversify the offer.

At this time, the manufacturing unit, located in the municipality of Cacuso, has three lines, namely the production of fried sweet potatoes and fried and frozen reindeer potatoes.

The information was given to ANGOP today by the director of the factory, Jorge Ibanez, noting that, in parallel with the tests at the unit, laboratory analyses and certification of the products are also taking place, the results of which are encouraging.

He pointed to the end of August as the likely date for the launch of the new line to the national market.

'We are going to bet on cassava and banana bread as an alternative to the shortage of reindeer potatoes suitable for our production', he reinforced.

On the other hand, the factory will soon add some flavors to the sweet potato fries, namely bacon, cheese, garlic and jindungo, in order to ensure greater diversity of this line in the market.

The director said that the establishment of a partnership with the Higher Agri-food Institute of Malanje was also in the works, aimed at carrying out scientific studies on the use of the potato shell and other products to be processed in the unit, in addition to burnt oil.

Owned by the Tegma-SU business group, the Palanca factory was opened in 2020, and it currently has 54 workers, mostly from the municipality of Cacuso. ACC/PBC/DOJ
