Luanda - The Angolan Government is committed in promoting sustainable practices throughout the country's diamond production chain, including the local boosting of the cutting industry, the consultant to the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Makenda Ambroise said Friday in Luanda.
When speaking at the 3rd Edition of the Valentine's Diamond Show, he highlighted that the local dynamism of the industry makes a difference in the community and in the world of jewelry production.
He highlighted that Angola is one of the main diamond producers in the world, with a diamond industry playing an important role in the national economy.
“In this particular, Angolan diamonds are one of the most strategic minerals, known for their excellent quality and beauty, and many of them are used in the production of jewelry”, he emphasized.
In turn, the general director of Bumbar Mining, Sebastião Panzo, highlighted that Angola is taking an interesting path to progress and explore the entire value chain of the diamond industry.
In his opinion, it is necessary to create a culture of consumption of diamonds extracted in Angola, in order to stimulate the national industry.
Data from September 2023 indicate that geological-mineral operations, carried out in some mines, confirm the existence of around 810 million carats of diamonds in unexplored reserves in Angola.
The country has 22 mines in exploration and 40 projects in prospecting.
Data from MIREMPET indicate that 70 percent of the national territory offers mineral potential, which gives room for more investments in the sector.
Among the existing minerals, diamonds, copper, iron, silver, manganese, gold, limestone, marble and granite stand out, according to the National Geology Plan (PLANAGEO), which aims, among other objectives, relaunch and boost the tax contribution of the mining subsector in Angola.
The Valentine's Diamond Show is an event that aims to create a positive perception and stimulate the jewelry segment and sale of finished diamonds in Angola, in addition to promoting the appreciation of local consumption, as well as presenting and demonstrating technological and creative advances in production of jewelry, highlighting the mastery of Angolan jewelers.
The event annually brings together professionals from the diamond industry, goldsmiths, jewelry designers, diamond buyers, investors, as well as the general public interested in learning about and purchasing diamond jewelry.HM/AC/DOJ
