Talatona – The global energy company (ENI) announced Wednesday in Luanda that it will make a 1 billion US dollars investment for the development of non-associated gas in Angola, its managing director Guido Brusco has said.

Non-associated gas is free of oil and water in the reservoir and its concentration is predominantly in the rock layer.

According to the director of the Italian energy company, who was speaking at the 4th edition of the Angola International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas 2023 (A0G2023)”, the New Gas Consortium (NGC) project, which involves ENI and Azule Energie, includes two offshore well platforms, an onshore gas processing plant and a connection to Angola's liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The plan, he continued, is to achieve production of around 350 million cubic feet per day, which is equivalent to approximately four billion cubic metres per year.

According to Brusco Progress in construction activities is impressive and is already at 15 per cent, almost twice as fast as planned.

In October, the company will celebrate the laying of the foundation stone for the main buildings that will house the New Gas Consortium's operations team in Soyo - another fundamental step to ensure that promises are kept.

Based on the progress already made, Guido Brusco confirmed that the first flow of gas could already be registered in July 2026, thus announcing the acceleration of the first gas process.

In order to continue with the execution of this project at an accelerated pace, he said it was essential to have the support of the authorities to finalise the fiscal framework package and the support of the partners.

Brusco recognised the effective collaboration with all the government entities involved and the leadership provided by Angola's Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum and the Ministry of Finance.

"The New Gas Consortium project is not just an ambitious project, it is a testament to the dedication and determination of Azule Energy, and ENI before it, in the development of gas in Angola," he said.

ENI says it is already looking to the future, with the first gas exploration well planned in Angola next year at block 1/14, which will allow gas to be unblocked in the country.

 Other projects in the pipeline

The development of Angolan gas will be a catalyst for other opportunities and will support the development of the petrochemical industry and, in particular, fertiliser production.

"Fertilisers will feed the Angolan agricultural sector, including bio raw materials to produce decarbonised fuel, a sector in which ENI is working tirelessly to make a reality in Angola," Brusco said.

For the ENI director, gas is in fact the ideal fuel for the country's long-term energy transition, as well as a cleaner, more reliable and more accessible source of energy for Angola and the world.

The 4th edition of the International Conference and Exhibition, Angola Oil & Gas 2023 (AOG2023) is being held under the slogan "Energy Security, Decarbonisation and Sustainable Development".

Taking place on September 13 and14, the conference is being held at a time when Angola is maintaining production levels of around 1.1 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD).
