Luanda – The engineer Patrício Quingongo said Friday that the main challenges facing the oil sector in Angola are increasing production, the number of national companies and the presence of quality human resources.
The director of the consultancy firm PetroAngola, who was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the "Workshop on the Challenges of the Oil Industry in Angola and Employability in the Sector", said Angola reached a 2 million barrels output in 2008 and is currently producing just one million.
According to the expert, "Angola has lost 50 per cent of its production, which must be resumed to enable it to have everything it needs to better leverage its desired development.
He also explained that the government is seeking to auction blocks to boost oil production, as the country needs to have blocks available for exploration.
"Angola has an immeasurable potential of young people who can do well in the oil industry, but students should know that the oil industry is very demanding in terms of technical skills and care," he said.
The Engineer Patrício Quingongo lamented the fact that oil production is still mostly carried out by foreign personnel.
