Dundo - Angola's National Diamond Company (ENDIAMA E.P.) forecasts a production of 8.3 million carats of diamonds in the second half of this year.
In the first half of this year, Angola produced 5.7 million carats of diamonds, with a deficit of 1.4 million, representing 80 percent of the recommended targets.
Speaking to the press at the end of the workshop on the assessment of diamond production, the director of mining operations and participation management of ENDIAMA E.P., Miguel Vemba, stressed that the production allowed revenues estimated at around US$600 million.
He said that turnover levels 'are far below what was expected, due to the drop of about 30 to 40 percent in the price of diamonds on the world market'.
He reiterated that for this year, the goal is to produce 14.6 million carats of diamonds and earn two billion US dollars.
In 2023, Angola produced 9.7 million carats, with revenue valued at US$1.5 billion.
ENDIAMA currently controls 24 projects in production and 54 in prospection. This year, the Mukita mine, located in the municipality of Lucapa, Lunda-Norte province, is expected to start operating. HD/DOJ
