Lubango – The debt of electricity consumers of the postpaid system of Huíla to the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) reached 12 billion kwanzas this month, most of which are defaulted by public companies and individuals.

Lubango – The debt of electricity consumers of the postpaid system of Huíla to the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) reached 12 billion kwanzas this month, most of which are defaulted by public companies and individuals.

In Huila the NSDS controls close to 109,000 customers, only close to 25 percent are in the prepaid system that guarantees the regular settlement of consumption. Part of the default lasts more than 20 years.

Speaking to ANGOP on Tuesday, the director of ENDE/Huíla, Felisberto Gomes, admitted that it is a situation that hinders new investments.

To reverse the situation, the source said, the ENDE is investing in the acquisition of technology for the prepaid system, so that the portfolio of customers in this scheme will increase from the current 26,000 to 84,000 in 2027, an action that is financed by the World Bank (WB).

The objective, according to the director, is to make the services more profitable and avoid evasion in the payment of tariffs, a situation that has caused losses to the company.

He detailed that the difference between the systems is that the payment of postpaid consumption has to be made independently of consumption, while in prepaid the customer only settles what he has consumed.

He stressed that the idea is, in the future, for everyone to migrate to prepaid, a process that is being developed gradually.

Still, he said, investments are underway to expand the network to reach the so-called 'gray areas.'

The public network of Huíla fed by the Matala Hydroelectric Power Plant and the two thermal power plants in Lubango reaches five of the 14 municipalities in the province, namely Lubango, Chibia, Humpata, Matala and Quipungo. JT/MS/DOJ
