Luanda - A delegation of Egyptian businesspeople and investors have shown interest in visiting Angola from May 20 to 25 to assess investment opportunities, particularly in the areas of transport, industry and equipment, Angola's ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Nelson Cosme, has said.
The Angolan diplomat added that the business initiative comes following the Angola/Egypt investment roundtable held in March during the visit of the Southern African country’s Foreign Affairs minister, Téte António, to the Arabic republic.
In an interview to the Daily News Egypt newspaper published early this week, the Angolan diplomat said talks between the Egyptian and Angolan foreign ministers were useful and fruitful, serving to strengthen bilateral relations and boost bilateral cooperation framework, especially in the economic and commercial domains.
On the occasion, Angola’s ambassador highlighted the existence of joint projects in the energy field, since Angola is an oil and gas producing country seeking to strengthen partnerships with Egypt.
According to Nelson Cosme, Angola aspires to work closely with Egypt to deal with the challenges facing the continent, through initiatives, political consultations and mechanisms of joint African action, especially at the level of the African Union (AU).
The Angolan diplomat stressed that the two countries aim to achieve sustainable development with main focus on oil refining, petrochemicals, and their storage.
The diplomat added that the cooperation between Angola and Egypt covers several areas, with emphasis on the Egyptian companies Elsewedy, Orascom and Arab Contractors, which has contributed to the reconstruction and development process of Angola.
As regards Aswan Forum, to be held on June 21-22 in Egypt, the diplomat said Angola was invited through the Luanda Biennale to participate in the event, which will address the tripartite cooperation between the Cairo Regional Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa (CCCPA) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The Angolan ambassador clarified that the event will serve to promote the goals of sustainable development and the culture of peace in Africa.
