Businessman to invest USD 30 million on Camabatela Plateau

Luanda - A pig farming project with a feed factory will be developed on the Camabatela Plateau over the next three years, with an investment of more than 30 million dollars (1 USD equals 852 Kz).

According to businessman Fernando Teles, this private initiative includes the installation of a silo, drying facilities and a cooking oil factory in this region, which includes the provinces of Cuanza-Norte, Malanje and Uíge.

With an area of 12,000 square kilometres, the Camabatela Plateau is a region rich in animal production, with favourable conditions for the development of farming.

The area has benefited from an animal replenishment project aimed at making it self-sufficient in cattle production.

Speaking to the press on Saturday in Cuanza Norte Province, the author of the project emphasised the importance of the farming sector for the development of the national economy and defended the need to encourage other entrepreneurs to invest in the sector.

"Angola needs investment. We need to create wealth for everyone. It is not easy, but I think it is possible”, he said on the sidelines of the “Cattle Breeder's Day” celebrations, which brought together players from the farming sector, including members of cooperatives and investors, in the locality of Camabatela, in the municipality of Ambaca”.

He said that from 2019 to the present day, more than USD 20 million were invested in agro-industrial projects in three farms in Camabatela, in addition to this, Tele gest company also has another, called “Santo António”, which is based in several provinces of the country, namely Cunene, Huíla, Huambo, Bié, Cuanza-Sul, Cuanza-Norte, Uíge and Luanda, adding that it has around 800 workers, 200 of whom are involved in the Camabatela project.

According to the businessman, to respond to the need related to the electricity, two years before he invested in a definitive solution and with lower costs by funding a 20-kilometre medium-voltage overhead power transmission network from the Camabatela hydroelectric centre.

Fazenda Capeca is an agro-industrial project limited to raising and slaughtering animals for meat, as well as growing soya and fodder, restructured and modernised with state-of-the-art technology from 2019.

Feed production and farming

The data provided shows that there are a total of 8,000 hectares of extensive green fields, where around 2,000 hectares are used for maize production and 1,500 hectares for soya.

The expected results point to up to 8,000 tonnes of maize and 3,000 tonnes of soya per year, essential for the current production of 4,000 tonnes of feed, 2,000 tonnes of maize meal and 300,000 litres of vegetable oil.

To guarantee the preservation of the products and raw materials, an industrial drying and processing unit was installed, with a dryer with an effective capacity of 10 tonnes per hour and a grain store in nominal silos of 10,000 tonnes.

The use of advanced technology, combined with the experience and know-how of Angolan and foreign technicians, increases efficiency and reduces operating costs, with benefits for environmental sustainability and the quality of the population's growth, currently with 5,014 heads of cattle.

The ongoing construction of 14 pavilions is an investment by the São Mateus agricultural company, as a common shareholder in this enterprise.

Nine pavilions have been completed, two are fully equipped and have 250 cows.

Once assembly is complete, production will reach 2,000 units.

Data of the company indicates that the aim is to reach up to 50,000 pigs to slaughter and the first stage is scheduled for March 2025.

With a huge area to cultivate and create animals, Capeca farming wants to contribute to food security, promote the national production of beef, pork and goat meat.
