Lubango – Five million US dollars were invested in the last two years in setting up a dimension stone processing factory in Lubango, Huíla Province, as a result of a partnership between Angolan and Chinese businesspeople.

The project is located at kilometer 16, on the outskirts of the city of Lubango, and is scheduled to come into operation next March 2025, if the licensing process, which began in January this year, is completed.

Currently the business people are waiting for the concession title for the space and approval of the environmental impact study.

Speaking to ANGOP on Monday, one of the infrastructure promoters and chairman of the Board of Directors, Dimas Sobral, said it was a modern marble and granite processing factory, with capacity to process 550 cubic meters per day of these products.

According to him, the entrepremeurs invested in setting up the factory with the aim of taking advantage of the region's mineral potential, as well as its natural resources, with a view to placing finished products on the national and foreign market, thus helping to avoid the export of raw blocks.

Dimas Sobral highlighted that the project also aims to promote employment for local young people, with 40 vacancies planned in the first phase, in which employability will be added to technical and vocational training.

“We are committed to practices that respect the environment, adopting technologies that minimize environmental impacts and promote the sustainable use of Huíla’s natural resources.

He added that the infrastructure aims to contribute to the social and economic development of the province, strengthen the production chain and generate wealth for the local community.

In this sense, Dimas Sobral said he hopes that the authorities will speed up the licensing of the project, so as not to discourage foreign partners, since the licensing process began in January this year and so far there is still no response.

The province of Huíla has 31 companies operating in the mining resources sector, 17 of which explore dimension stones, five mineral waters, four gold, two crushers, one sand, one ceramic material and one agro-mineral.
