Soyo – over three billion kwanzas were collected from January to December 2023 by the Soyo Port Company in Zaire province, one billion kwanzas more than in the same period of 2022.
The information was provided on Friday, in Soyo, by the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Soyo, Fernando Dias, when he took stock of the activities carried out by his institution during the past year.
According to the PCA, the revenues collected result from infrastructure concession services, loading and unloading of goods, with emphasis on companies in the oil sector.
Fernando Dias said that, during the period under review, the institution registered the entry and exit of 3,425 medium and large ships, with 222,648.58 tonnes of gross and containerized cargo, containing various goods, handled.
Regarding the exported goods, the source said that it was destined for countries such as Singapore, China, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Congo Brazzaville and Togo, while the import involved ships from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, South Africa, China and Singapore.
Regarding the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers at the aforementioned maritime terminal, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Soyo Port Company said that 93,829 movements of people were registered, an increase of around 67.80 percent compared to the previous period of 2022.
Company invests in the diversification of revenue collection sources
For the current financial year, the Soyo Port Company intends to diversify and increase the sources of revenue collection, through partnerships with the private and public-private sectors.
To materialize this desideratum, he said, the institution he directs will invest in the concession of more areas of port domain, as well as in the recovery of some existing port infrastructures in the region, with emphasis on the port of Nóqui and the river post of Kimbumba, in the municipality of Soyo.
“We are in contact with many entrepreneurs, both national and foreign, who want to invest in our region,” he said.
The manager informed that it is intended to build a pier and other support infrastructures at the Kimbumba river post, to put an end to the disorderly movement of artisanal means that is witnessed at that river terminal.
Regarding the Port of Nóqui, Fernando Dias said that the Executive, through Presidential Decree No. 262/23, of October 26, authorized the opening of a simplified contracting procedure for the construction of a new terminal, budgeted at $90 million dollars.
The amount also includes the construction of support infrastructures such as warehouses and offices.
He added that the Port of Nóqui will serve as a strategic corridor to leverage the socio-economic development of the region and foster trade between Angola and the DRC. JFC/JL/DOJ
