Camabatela – A total of 900.000 US dollars were invested in 2023 by the Spanish company Incatema for cattle and goats breeding at Angola’s Camabatela Plateau through the usage of animal insemination technology.
The project, set up on an area of 880 hectares, will also produce vegetables and fruit.
Tiago Costa Pereira, head of the farm's operations, said the investment is aimed at beef production.
Started in June 2023, the project is expected to be a model for animal breeders on the Camabatela Plateau, with the introduction of new techniques and working methods to boost livestock and agriculture in the region.
The farm also has treatment zones and other technologies for breeding and treating animals, such as genetic improvement, with the aim of making production more efficient and profitable.
The initiative plans to raise 6,000 cattle over the next five years and 500 goats this year.
The farm currently has 302 cattle and 100 goats.
In addition to the infrastructure for animal husbandry, 70 irrigated hectares are being prepared for growing Arabica coffee, 300 hectares for bananas, and 100 hectares for maize, soya and vegetables.
The farm also has a dam two kilometers and 200 meters long operated by 23 workers.
Tiago Costa Pereira highlighted the potential of the Camabatela Plateau, which has arable and fertile land and a mild climate for farming that could be better exploited.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António de Assis, visited the infrastructure on Wednesday to check its conditions.
The minister said he was satisfied with the conditions of the farm and that he hopes that projects of this kind will be replicated across the country, in line with the Angolan government's objectives. EFM/IMA/AC/DAN/AM
